There goes the numbering

We've patiently complained about the lack of formatting controls. Now it's the numbering's turns to bask in the sunlight of truth. The truth is - when you hit tab to get an outline going, expecting an (a) to magically appear at the exact indent you desire, you get something very different - nothing. But we can do better than nothing, can't we?
