Hair and sweat?

Is there a correlation, or any connection whatsoever, between the two? It is common wisdom that hair is there to combat sweat and so it locates itself appropriately. But is this really true? For all animals? Less predisposed to sweat = less hair? What about all those polar bear type guys? How did they get that way? Since we are on the subject: PROTECT THE BEARS!
